Auditorio de la Ribera
There is a very nice auditorium located in the La Floresta area of Ajijic, which is home to a wide variety of musical presentations throughout the year.
Just in the past year we have been treated to a classical chamber orchestra, a full symphony, opera, a fabulous group of Mariachi, Mexican Folklorico Ballet, Jazz and Flamenco, as well as a children's choir.
Music Appreciation Society, A.C.
MAS Ajijic is a not-for-profit organization that has been bringing excellent Internationally-recognized classical music and dance programs to the Lakeside residents for over 20 years.
The Northern Lights Music Festival
For the past seven years we have been delighted by The Northern Lights Music Festival, a group of very talented young mostly-Canadian musicians, who visit us for two weeks in February.
The Festival's objectives are:
1) to promote Canadian culture in Mexico, by exposing audiences to high quality classical and jazz music performed by young Canadian professional musicians;
2) second, to promote Canada/Mexico goodwill by offering master classes and school concerts to Mexican music students at the post-secondary and secondary level; and
3) to provide our young music professionals an opportunity to perform on the international stage.
Guadalajara
Nearby Guadalajara features many world-class theaters and concert venues. A sampling of recent performances includes Bob Dylan, Cirque du Soleil, Julio Iglesias, the BBC Concert Orchestra, San Petersburg Ballet, KC & the Sunshine Band, and many more.
Each September Guadalajara is also the host city of the International Mariachi Festival. There are nightly concerts at the magnificent Degollado Theater, and tens of thousands line the streets for the impressive Mariachi parade.
